Carol Vorderman’s Detox


When I was 19 my Mum bought Carol Vorderman’s Detox for Summer book- a 14 day detox plan and we decided we’d try and do it together.

Prior to trying this detox my eating habits were mostly about dieting- low fat/low calorie, I probably would try and get in my 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, but that was it when it came to what I eat.

This detox seemed to make a lot of sense as it was about eating natural foods and cutting out the rubbish rather then consuming loads of diet coke and other low calorie foods.

On this detox you’re encouraged to eat in abundance, no limitations on how much you eat, just on what sort of food you eat. This is the plan’s outline:

What to eat:

  • Fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Wheat free grains, bread and pasta
  • Pulses and sprouted beans
  • Cold pressed oils
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Non- dairy milk
  • Fresh herbs and spices
  • Water
  • Herbal teas
  • Fresh juice

What to avoid

  • Wheat
  • Caffeine
  • Alcohol
  • Extra salt
  • Dairy products
  • Meat and fish
  • Processed food with artificial additives
  • Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Hydrogenerated fats

I survived the 14 days on the detox and found that I had more energy, no random aches and pains, I slept amazingly, was satisfied, didn’t have any cravings, I felt calmer and looked forward to the delicious meals on the detox.

Doing this detox honestly changed my eating habits for good; this taught me to read the ingredients of what’s in food and that diet shouldn’t just be about making yourself slim but making you healthy with the added appearance bonus of having bright eyes, glowing skin and strong hair and nails. I also learnt that healthy eating isn’t just about getting your 5 portions of fruit and veg and 2 litres of water in, but also about having nuts, pulses, seeds and grains. I don’t stick to this diet all the time, but since doing this I have cut out having dairy milk in drinks (it now makes me feel sick), I pay attention to how my body reacts after I eat certain foods, avoid artificial ingredients and food nasties, apart from the occasional slice of fresh bread I generally avoid wheat and I even broke through the need to drink on a night out and will now happily dance without alcohol.
